Joe Biden and Kamala Harris Win the 2020 US Elections

November 7, 2020 - Today, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were announced the 46th President and Vice President of the United States. This was a historic election: it is the first time in U.S. history that a Black and Indian woman is elected as Vice President, and President-elect Biden received the most votes for a presidential candidate in U.S. history.

Sabs Katz, Director of Communications at Intersectional Environmentalist, said, “We’d like to congratulate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their victory. While President-elect Biden wasn’t our first choice, he presented one of the most progressive and extensive climate plans from a major presidential nominee. We will continue to hold the new administration accountable to ensure they stay committed to addressing the climate crisis and social inequalities.”

Leah Thomas, Creative Director at Intersectional Environmentalist, said, “At Intersectional Environmentalist, we are dismantling systems of oppression in the environmental movement by bringing Black, Indigenous, and People of Color’s (BIPOC) voices to the forefront. Biden and Harris recognize that BIPOC and low-income communities are the most vulnerable to the negative effects of climate change.

While we will have a Biden-Harris presidency in January, it does not mean our work is done. There was an overwhelming support for the current sitting president who constantly promotes racism, white supremacy, xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, and more. We must dismantle those beliefs before we can achieve an intersectional future.”
